Day two was a little bit more relaxed , in this session we went thou the following:

• We talk about the Core edition a lot, I will soon create a post where I will go thou Windows Server 2008 Core more in detail.
• The news in Backup
  • New interface, you can from one screen see all previous backups and upcoming ->
  • Only Disk-based backup, Tape is dead
  • Now backs up entire volume c:
  • Backup creates VHD which you can open up with Virtual PC, NOT OFFICIAL
  • Backup Not installed by default, Install Role via Server Manage
• Windows Virtualization – I will post an own post for this later on
• All the new security – I will post an own post for this later on

Today I’m going to Global Knowledge for a new one day course, I’ll keep you updated.

The first day of the Expert Seminar was very intensive and interesting.

Our course leader is Andy Malone who is a MVP and MCP, his expert field is Deployment and Security. We went thou a lot of the new features in Windows Server 2008, here follows a summery:

• The release date is set to February the 26th 2008
• Later on MS will release:
  • Windows Server Code Name ”Centro”
    • A new version of Windows Server for midrange companys up to 500 users
  • The new SBS Code Name ”Couger” up to 75 users
• If I didn’t understand Andy wrong MS are working getting PowerShell in the Core version. It will probably not work in the first release.
• In 2003 there where 1500 setting in group policy in 2008 there are around 3000
• You can now move your installation from one server to another without having drivers problem. Windows Server 2008 will detect the new hardware ind install the drivers. The only hardware you can’t change is processor type.
• A brand new TCP stack
• WINS is no longer a role it’s a feature
• Read Only Domain Controller, I will explain the later on

This is not all but I have to run for Day 2 with Andy Malone.

Finally I arrive to Stockholm, I’ve checked in to the hotel and had a few beers with a old friend.

Tomorrow it’s Windows Server 2008, I will attend a two day Deep Dive course held by Jönsson och Lepp. In the course include:
